Nishiyama Kōryū-ji Temple

A mountain temple with beautiful stone steps well-known for the colorful maple leaves

For more than 1,000 years since it became Emperor Kanmu’s chokugan-ji, which is an imperial temple designated to pray for the nation, it has drawn many worshippers as the foremost sacred ground in Tōyo. It practices exceptional seasonal formalities and has been designated by the prefecture as a place of scenic beauty. The temple holds many national treasures and cultural properties and welcomes many visitors who come to offer prayers at New Year’s, to view the foliage in the fall, and throughout the entire year.
