The color of the water of Niyodo-gawa, referred to as “Niyodo blue,” is a mysterious and indescribable hue. A spot where you can experience the Niyodo blue is the mystical Niko-buchi waterfall basin, a place that celebrates the deep blue jewel-like water. Beautiful water creates a stunning waterfront landscape. Here, you will find many almost forgotten waterfront scenes of the past like that of a lower water bridge, of dancing fireflies, and the fantastical hiburi (“torch kindling”) ayu fishing done using torch lights.

Omogo-kei gorge is located at the upper stream of the Omogo-gawa river on the foothills of the holy mountain of Izhizuchi and it is where the “Niyodo blue” originates. As you gaze at the transparent water that lets you to see clear to the riverbed, the smooth rocks polished by the currents, and the huge, strangely-shaped rocks towering before you, they begin to all seem like artwork created by nature.

As very little time is required for you to move from one point to another, more time can be spent playing in the clear waters of the river.

After you put on a wet suit and helmet, you can slide atop rocks, stand under a waterfall, and jump into a ravine. Perhaps the greatest appeal of canyoning is that even adults will experience their child side coming out as they play in the river. Have an unforgettable experience by becoming at one with the almost entirely untouched nature.
